Adam Cohen Band + Paul Thorn

Adam Cohen's opening
set last year brought incredible accolades from our audience, including
the following, "I never knew the meaning of the term 'naked on
the stage' until I saw him." Not only does he have an impeccable
pedigree (his dad is Leonard Cohen), but he attracts the most unbelievably
excellent musicians to interpret his unique, soulful, rocking songs.
We feel that Adam Cohen is an artist for the ages. Paul Thorn's barn-burnin'
live shows have established his reputation as one of the most amazing
young singer-songwriters to emerge in recent years. Everywhere he performs,
he draws an immediate, enthusiastic response and a lineup of fans wanting
to meet him. There you go.

Buena
Vista Social Club featuring Omara Portuondo
In 2002
a sold-out Arlington Theatre audience was blown away by the Buena Vista
Social Club. Now this group of Cuba's hottest musicians returns, led
by Omara Portuondo, a glamorous world-class singer who has enchanted
audiences for fifty years. A former dancer, Portuondo still kicks up
her heels during shows! Called CubaÕs Billie Holiday, Portuondo sings
filin (feeling) the bossa nova style she's made her own with her richly
expressive voice. Have we told you about the piano player? How about
the bass player? And that horn section....Plus, after the show, we're
going to hold a salsa party across the way at Soho with live music from
the great salsa band Somos Son. The cost of the party is $25, which
includes drinks and tapas. Show only, call the Arlington Ticket Agency
at 963-4408. To add the Salsa Party, call UCSB Arts & Lectures 893-3535.

Susan
Werner+eastmountainsouth
Susan
Werner (www.susanwerner.com)
will open the evening with a solo performance. Miss Werner's quality
of musicianship and stylistic range are breathtaking, yet her songwriting
and remarkably evocative voice take center stage at live performances.
Artful, funny, and blessed with that luminescent voice, Susan Werner
is a shining star.

eastmountainsouth (www.eastmountainsouth.com)
represents the confluence of high-lonesome heartbreak, modernist ingenuity
and raw-veined Americana. The core of the group, Kat Maslich and Peter
Abrams, are both vocalists, instrumentalists, and writers. Their music
is an alloy of hill-country melodies, contemporary rock sensibility
and literary-minded lyrics. Mitchell Froom co-produced their first(eponymous)
album for Dreamworks...it's a stunner.

Junior Brown + Danny Click
If there is one artist who defines the alternative-country scene right now, it's Junior Brown. The soul of country and the spirit of rock'n'roll. An amazing player on his self-invented guit-steel, he is also one of the best songwriters you've ever heard. No poop. There's a big fan base out there for Junior Brown and we guarantee you're about to join it. Danny Click came to Hell as the lead guitar player for Jimmy LaFave, then took his own band to the Kate Wolf Festival and knocked 'em dead. Modern blues rock with a country twist and a stellar guitar player.

Saturday, March 20
Thea Gilmore + Bob & Wendy
Thea Gilmore is a 21 year old edgy folk poet who has been turning the UK music scene on its ear. One of the most intelligent English singer-songwriters around, her Rules For Jokers is a stunningly fine debut . This is one of those Sings Like Hell "bragging rights" concerts--her first US tour and you were there, baby. Bob & Wendy hail from San Luis Obispo, but don't let their proximity fool you. Wendy has a voice that most any diva would die for and Bob plays and arranges right up to its hilt...or lilt. Tilt!
