Raspy-voiced veteran Philadelphia based singer songwriter Ben Arnold and his bandmates deliver with Stones-like swagger, but more often than not the moods are playful, yearning or contemplative. It’s raw, bluesy, soulful, even edgy...a brand-new old friend you haven’t seen in ages.
David Berkeley sings in a lustrous melancholy voice with shades of Tim Buckley and Nick Drake. As his melodies ascend to become benedictions, the music shimmers and peals.” Jon Perales, New York Times

Poet punk X-man John Doe is all grown up and has chosen to make an amazing acoustic record with the help of producer Joe Henry. Tonight we'll hear both sides of John Doe...and still won't be able to pin him down. "Doe's songs are a mixture of stark confessionals and everyday impressionism. Like an aged fine wine, Dim Stars is complex and intoxicating." Alex Kisch, Interview

Kristin Mooney sets her passionate urban-folk pop vocals against spare, organic backdrops..."matching a poet's nuance with a voice like liquid smoke." Fade In

Todd Snider + Jeff Caudill

Todd Snider has written a bunch of bold, sometimes unsettling, often funny songs about death, suicide, going to jail and growing old. They're the kind of songs that make you laugh while hitting you in the gut. they're about laughing in the dark while looking for the light. Good songs, well sung. He can play pretty well, too. Not bad.

Jeff Caudill had never heard of Todd Snider, but his smart, indie pop rock has a subtle country twang and an uncommonly emotive vocal presence. Bob Mould, Live, Pearl Jam...Jeff Caudill keeps very good company.

Bruce Robison Band + Shane Alexander

One of the best of a new breed of singer songwriters (according to Billboard), Bruce Robison's songs are sought by country stars like the Dixie Chicks (Travelin' Soldier), Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (Angry All the Time) and George Strait (Desperately), among many others. Married to singer Kelly Willis, Bruce loves to stay at home and record his critically acclaimed self-released records. He rarely travels, so tonight's performance is a real treat.
Shane Alexander throws a subtle, modern twist on folk music. His well-written, poetic lyrics, expressive voice and warm melodies with alternate tunings combine to set him apart. Former front man for the LA hip group Damone, Shane Alexander is stretching his capable wings in a new direction.

Rodney Crowell + Will Kimbrough

Certainly one of the greatest songwriters working today, Rodney Crowell is also really funny and a great entertainer. He's recordea bunch of excellent records, but his last two are his very own; the grown-up, wise and wonderful children of those wild oat years with Emmylou Harris and Rosanne Cash. He always has the best band and an evening with Rodney Crowell is a Hell of a deal.
Will Kimbrough is everybody's favorite guitar player, certainly Rodney Crowell's, but he's a fantastic singer-songwriter in his own right.

Series #17 Show Reviews
Subject: Thanks for a great party and a great series!
Hi Peggy,
I just wanted to say thank you for another outstanding series. This may
have been one of the best - especially the final 3 shows. My wife and I
really enjoy coming to these shows and we're already signed up for the next
series. Thanks also for the great party before the show. It was a nice
opportunity to see our fellow subscribers in the daylight. PatSubject: Hell Yes!!
Great gawd-a'mighty Miss Jones, that was one hell of a show!
Thanks for bringing Rodney, and for your all your hospitality, Peggie. Subject: Rodney
Peggy -
That was one of your absolute top concerts, and I've been to half of your seasons at this point. Way to go!! I loved every minute. Also enjoyed the BBQ, as did my sister who goes with me to these concerts.Subject: Re: Rodney Crowell is sold out! Donate your tickets if you can't attend!
Miss Jones,
My wife and I took the train up from Encinitas for the Rodney Crowell concert. We had a hell of a good time! We were going to introduce ourselves (as you had suggested in a previous email) but after someone pointed you out in that glamorous gown we ( in Hobie shorts and Hawaiian shirts) decided we were not worthy! The audience was simply the best ever......no inappropriate calls for old songs, quiet listening and warm reception for the outstanding opening act. San Diego audiences need to take a lesson. Rodney is always great, thanks for booking him. We would also venture north for people like Jerry Jeff Walker, Kevin Welch, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bruce Cockburn, Jennifer Warnes, Guy Clark, etc............ Please keep up the great work and keep us on your email list. Thanks! Don and Jan Lee
